LOI Preview: Shamrock Rovers close in on title as Sligo Rovers look to keep their faint European ambitions alive

Sligo Rovers v Shamrock Rovers, The Showgrounds, 7.45pm

Shamrock Rovers travel west to take on Sligo Rovers in the Showgrounds with kick off at 7.45pm.

The Tallaght side are five points clear ahead of Derry City with just six games remaining (depending on results Friday) whilst Sligo lie in fifth/sixth place (depending on Bohemians result Friday night).

They have managed to qualify for the UEFA European Conference League twice in the last two years.

John Russell's side suffered defeat in their last outing away in Derry going down to a goal from Will Patching.

Their two previous games before then were both 2-0 wins, away to Shelbourne and at home to Drogheda United.

The Hoops meanwhile are coming into Saturday's game off the back of a 1-0 win at home to UCD, thanks to a goal from Neil Farrugia.

They will welcome back Andy Lyons from international duty with the Republic of Ireland under-21 side who suffered penalty heartbreak in Israel on Tuesday.

The Irish team had travelled to Tel Aviv on a charter flight, but on their way back travel plans were scuppered due to missing a connecting flight in Paris but Lyons has returned in time to be considered for selection.

Stephen Bradley will have pretty much a full squad to select from as the fixture pile-up has slightly eased thanks to playing throughout the international break.

In the last meeting of the two sides this season, there have been two draws, whilst Shamrock Rovers defeated Sligo at home in Tallaght Stadium in June.

"It is another tough game, but every game has been like this since after the summer," said Bradley.

"They are all big
