Derry have everything to go to the next level - Corry

Paul Corry believes Derry City have the resources, players and manager to "go to the next level" and massively challenge Shamrock Rovers over the next few seasons.

The Candystripes could still win the double this year after they beat Treaty United 2-1 on Sunday to make the FAI Cup final.

In the league Ruadhri Higgins' men are six points behind Shamrock Rovers with a game in hand - the two teams meet on 30 October at Tallaght Stadium - so the title so not gone yet.

It all bodes well for a club who are backed by self-made billionaire chairman Philip O'Doherty, who has been open about his desire to deliver silverware to the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.

Speaking on the RTÉ Soccer Podcast, ex-UCD and Shamrock Rovers midfielder Corry said he sees no reason why they can't kick on further.

"There was probably a number of questions coming into the season about how quickly they'd be able to gel some of the players because they brought a number of new faces into the club and obviously Ruaidhri is quite early in his managerial career... how he was going to manage that whole situation.

"Since the turn of the break they've been flawless in their displays, their points tally and how they've progressed in the different competitions.

"Bar that slip in May where they dropped a number of points, the season has gone really well.

"I think what's been particularly important is bringing Patrick McEleney back in from the cold and being out injured. The same with Michael Duffy. They just bring so much
