Livingston Women's boss says late title winner 'sums up our season'

Livingston Women's boss Paul Jaconelli says his players can be ‘hugely proud’ of their achievements and praised their ability to find late winners throughout the campaign.

He watched his side bag themselves three equalisers, including a decisive one two minutes into injury-time, on Sunday as the 3-3 home draw with Renfrew saw them seal the title.

He said: “It sums up our season, doesn’t it? The girls found a way and kept going until the very last minute. That really perfectly describes our season.

“They just keep going and never give up. It’s been incredible to watch. To be honest this was possibly the first time I questioned whether we’d get that late goal. It’s happened so many times you just think, surely it can’t happen again.

“Full credit to them. They came back from going a goal behind three times. That sums up their attitude and character perfectly.”

He added: “Our second game of the season we conceded two late goals against Renfrew then found a winner and I thought even that early on that was a major moment in our season.

“From then on there was just a belief within the squad that they could last right to the end of games and get those crucial goals and that’s ultimately been the case. It’s a credit to everyone – the coaches and the players.

“It takes the pressure off the girls and they can go and enjoy the last couple of games and we can give more minutes to some of the girls who have been waiting patiently because they’ve earned the right to play in games too because of their ability and attitude in training.”
