Livingston unable to break down 10-man Celtic as champions pick up points

Livingston fell to a 3-0 home loss to champions Celtic - despite playing against 10 men for over an hour.

Reo Hatate's early penalty put the away side in front before Livi were handed a major boost before the half hour mark as Hoops keeper Joe Hart saw red for a rash challenge on Mo Sangare.

The Lions were unable to make that count, though, and fell further behind three minutes into the second half as Luiyi de Lucas failed to deal with a cross that ultimately saw Matt O'Riley fire home. They closed proceedings with a fine strike from the edge of the box by Daizen Maeda in injury-time.

Celtic, as expected, enjoyed plenty of the ball but it was the hosts who had the game's first real chance on 10 minutes. Bruce Anderson got in behind the defence and saw his effort saved with Scott Pittman's attempt at turning the rebound home being cleared off the line.

Immediately at the other end, Shamal George was called into action as he parried a Kyogo Furuhashi angled drive wide before the Celts opened the scoring two minutes later from the spot. Luiyi de Lucas brought down Hatate in the box with the midfielder dusting himself down to slot home the opener despite the best efforts of George as the ball squeezed under the keeper.

Daizen Maeda thought he had bagged a second for the visitors on 24 minutes after patient play in and around the box saw the Japanese ace fire at goal from close range but George produced a smart save to keep his side in the game.

The game took a dramatic turn in favour of the hosts five minutes later as Joe Hart rushed from his goal and recklessly clattered into Sangare with whistler John Beaton having no option but to show a red card. James Forrest was the player to make way for substitute keeper Scott Bain.
