Livingston pay the penalty as late spot-kick miss makes it eight games without a win

Livingston boss David Martindale admits it feels like 'everything is going against' his side after a late penalty miss saw their winless run stretch to eight games in a goalless draw at home to Kilmarnock.

Bruce Anderson's 83rd minute penalty clipped the outside of the post and ensured it was a seventh game without a goal for the Lions, who sit five points adrift at the foot of the table following their latest blank.

The draw at least marks a small step in the right direction but had Anderson's spot-kick found the net, defeat would have been harsh on the visitors who dominated much of the contest - albeit not putting Shamal George under too much pressure in the Livi goal.

Martindale said: "I thought it had nil-nil written all over it. It was one of those game. Fair play to the players because I thought they defended the 18 yard box well.

"We get the opportunity from 12 yards and I’m disappointed. I spoke to wee Brucey and he’s gutted. The wee guy lives and breathes scoring goals. You have to be disappointed he’s not hit the target, if the keeper saves it you take your hat off. It really sums the game up.

"Sean came in at half-time and said he felt his hamstring, he would have taken the penalty. Bruce grabbed it but your the number 9 at a football club should be wanting to take penalties. Sean would 100 per cent have taken it.

"When you’re going through periods that we’re going through at this point it seems that everyone is going against you."

The home side started brightly with Ayo Obileye forcing Will Dennis into a decent save just 40 seconds in. The defender tried his luck from the edge of the box after Joel Nouble's cross was half-cleared.
