Livingston defender fined by club and apologises for Dundee red card

Livingston defender Cristian Montano has apologised to team-mates and staff following his red card against Dundee – but gaffer David Martindale says the player insists a stamp on Malachi Boateng wasn’t deliberate.

The Colombian saw red on 70 minutes following a VAR check after being initially shown a yellow card before Dundee bagged two late goals and picked up the three points.

Martindale revealed he let the player decide his own fine and insists everyone will move on.

He said: “Cristian has been fined. I let him come up with that figure himself. I’m not big on fining players because we’re not on a lot of money at this club and we’re coming up to a period in the season when money is always tight.

“I let Cristian come up with a proposal for me that was acceptable and he has. I spoke to him at length, he is adamant he didn’t mean it and I don’t think Cristian Montano is a liar.

“I’ve told him, looking at the footage, it looks as though he meant it but he’s said he didn’t. He’s apologised to the players and staff and I need to take him at value. He is a very humble human being, he is sincere – we’ll move on.”
