Livingston 3 Morton 2: Rice calls on Lions to seize summit chance after sinking 'Ton
Livingston No.2 Brian Rice says the chance to go top of the table on Friday night will be a huge incentive for the Lions in the Championship title race.
The Lions moved to within a point of leaders Falkirk after a battling 3-2 win at home to Morton, which saw David Martindale’s men recover from a goal down to take the spoils.
After Arron Lyall gave Ton the lead after 28 minutes, a quick-fire three-goal blitz from the hosts turned the game on its head before half-time with Tete Yengi, Danny Wilson and Andrew Shinnie all netting in the space of eight minutes.
Niall McGinn’s strike in second half stoppage time proved just a consolation for the visitors.
But the result now provides Livi with the chance to go ahead of Falkirk when they travel to Partick Thistle on Friday night, although the Bairns would then have two games in hand going into their Saturday clash at Hamilton Accies.
Rice said: “That’s the incentive to try and go and win at Partick and go top of the league.
“It will be a battle, it will be a scrap and we’ve got to earn the right to go and win the game.
“Nothing comes easy in this league and we are finding that out, but we’ve got a group that will fight for everything.
“When Friday night comes it will be another tough game but hopefully we can keep the good run of form going.”
The Lions are on a nine-game unbeaten run in all competitions and reflecting on the win over Morton, Rice added: “It has been a tough run of fixtures for us and it was tough again tonight.
“We had a poor start, lost an early goal, but we responded really well. Then we took control of the game, lost control of the game and it got a wee bit nervy at the end. But the most important thing was to win and we did that.
