Liverpool XI vs Leicester: Confirmed team news, predicted lineup and injury latest for Premier League today
Mo Salah is available for Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Leicester tonight, but Jurgen Klopp must decide whether the forward is ready to start after his Africa Cup of Nations exploits.
A penalty shootout defeat to Senegal in the final meant the Egyptian failed to add to his homeland’s record of seven AFCON crowns - whereas club teammate Sadio Mane was the hero for the victors.
Mane, who took part in huge celebrations in Dakar after his winning spot-kick, will sit out the Premier League game at Anfield.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp told reporters on Wednesday: “Yes, [Salah] is happy to be back but he is disappointed as well, massively so. Losing a final is always really hard - I can sing that song - but losing the way they lost it was especially hard and that is what he felt as well.
“We spoke obviously and we will see. He will deal with that, of course, and I hope today will already be better, but yesterday everyone could see he still has the final in his mind.”
Liverpool are waiting on the results of Jordan Henderson’s fitness test after the midfielder suffered a knock to his back in the FA Cup win over Cardiff.
Fabinho and Alisson Becker should return after being rested for that game, while Luis Diaz is competing with Roberto Firmino to make his full debut.
Divock Origi (knee) is unlikely to feature, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Joe Gomez were absent on the weekend having only recently recovered from Covid-19.
Predicted Liverpool XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Matip, Robertson; Fabinho, Keita, Thiago; Salah, Diaz, Jota.
