Liverpool player 'more than capable' of playing for Aston Villa amid transfer talk

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has outlined how Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is 'more than capable of playing' for Aston Villa.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, 28, looks set to depart Liverpool this summer after signing from Arsenal in 2017 in a deal worth over £34 million. The former England international showed flashes of brilliance at Anfield however a cruciate ligament rupture shortly after arriving sidelined the midfielder for over 300 days and severely hindered his progress for the Reds.

The player now looks set to depart the club this summer as he eyes regular game time within the top flight of English football. Speaking to gambling firm BeMyBet, Danny Murphy outlined what Oxlade-Chamberlain's priority should be going into this window and commented on the possibility of him joining Villa or Newcastle United.

He said: "I think the amount of years that he spent not playing regular football would mean that his priority is football now and if that means going to a club with a lesser name then that’s what he should do.

"Location and family is always a factor people don’t think about, but he’s a very capable player. He’s got phenomenal ability and he should’ve done so much more in his career. Yeah, maybe. I think that the problem you’ve got is that Newcastle are going to start spending on big names and progressing quite quickly. However he’s more than capable in playing in both those sides (Aston Villa and Newcastle).

‘It’s an individual choice when you get to a certain stage in your career where you have to balance on and off the field happiness, and football. He’s earned good money for a long time, so I wouldn’t think his priority would be finance.
