Liverpool legend labels Thiago 'most overrated player in Europe'

Liverpool‘s quadruple dreams came crashing down in the space of week as their Premier League and Champions League hopes ended in heartache.

Having come within a gnats kneecap of winning the league title on the final day, they then jetted off to Paris to face Real Madrid in the biggest club game on the planet.

It would be disappointment again for the Reds on what would prove to be a thoroughly forgettable night in the French capital.

It ultimately meant that Liverpool would end the season with two trophies instead of the four that were within reach right until the very last kick of the campaign.

In truth, Liverpool didn’t do a lot wrong in that final week. They beat Wolves in the Premier League and, had it not been for an inspired performance from Thibaut Courtois, could easily have clinched continental glory.

However, Reds legend Dietmar Hamman thinks he knows where the Reds fell short this season, blasting the midfield, and Thiago Alcantara in particular.

“In my opinion, the Reds need to modernize the team a bit, especially in midfield,” Hamman began while speaking to Sky Sport Germany.

“I don’t understand the hype about Thiago. For me he is one of the most overrated players in European football.

“When things are going well and you have a lot of possession he’s a good player, but when push comes to shove you don’t see him.

“If you need someone who sets accents, then he doesn’t do it. Keita is also a disappointment, [Jordan] Henderson is a worker. They need a player who can make the difference and give the team that extra something.”
