Damon Hill warns Charles Leclerc over recent Ferrari criticism

Damon Hill has warned Charles Leclerc to not go too over the top with criticism of his team as ‘Ferrari always win.’

Leclerc had a tough weekend at the Monaco Grand Prix as a botched pit-stop call left him in 4th place in the race having led from pole in the early stages.

Indeed, he could not improve on that position and saw the gap to Max Verstappen grow further in the Dutchman’s favour, whilst Sergio Perez is also now breathing down his neck in the Drivers’ standings.

A tough weekend, particularly at his home race, and Leclerc’s frustrations during and after the Grand Prix were clear for all to see and hear as he spoke over the team radio, bemoaning the errors that were made.

Team boss Mattia Binotto said post-race he could understand Charles’ frustrations, too, but 1996 world champion Damon Hill has warned Leclerc he should avoid getting himself into a driver v team battle as there’ll only ever be one winner when the Scuderia is involved:

“Ferrari are not the people who will give way here,” said Hill.

“If you’ve got a driver versus Ferrari, Ferrari will always win. So, technically or diplomatically, you have to watch it a bit.”

In fairness, we’re a long way short of this being a full-blown battle and this season has actually been very harmonious in the main for Ferrari and Leclerc, who have overall made a good start to the campaign.

Mistakes put the pressure on, though, and they’ll be eager to try and respond in Baku in just under two weeks from now.
