Liverpool incident live updates as car ploughs into fans after trophy parade in horror scenes

A car has driven into Liverpool FC supporters celebrating their Premier League title win during the club's trophy parade in the city. Around 800,000 fans are estimated to have filled the city streets as players and coaches showed off the trophy on an open-top bus, but the day has ended in horror, with a car driving into numerous fans.

According to Merseyside Police, a man has been detained following the incident, with the Liverpool Echo reporting that several ambulances and the air ambulance are in attendance at the scene.

It is currently unclear how many people have been injured.

A police spokesperson said: "We are currently dealing with reports of a road traffic collision in Liverpool city centre.

"We were contacted at just after 6pm today, Monday 26 May, following reports a car had been in collision with a number of pedestrians on Water Street.

"The car stopped at the scene and a male has been detained. Emergency services are currently on the scene. We will issue more updates as we have them."
