A murder investigation has begun its second day after a boy died following a stabbing in north Manchester.

Police taped off an area outside the Fairway Inn, on Broadway in New Moston, yesterday (June 8).

The victim, aged 14, was seen running to nearby Nevin Road following the attack.

Emergency services were called out to the scene at around 5pm on Sunday evening.

Greater Manchester Police said a number of crime scenes had been put in place as the murder investigation was launched.

The Fairway Inn remains cordoned off this morning (Monday).

In an update, GMP has confirmed the boy was found with stab wounds on Nevin Road.

He was rushed to hospital, where he sadly died despite the best efforts of emergency services, including the air ambulance team.

Two boys, aged 14 and 16, have been arrested on suspicion of murder. A 14-year-old girl and a 37-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

An eyewitness told the Manchester Evening News that the boy ran into the doorway of his home following the attack, screaming: "I don’t want to die."

Detective Chief Inspector John Charlton said: “This incident will have shocked and saddened the local community, and distressed anyone who witnessed it.

“We are deploying significant resources to this murder investigation, and this led to quickly identifying potential suspects.

"We are still trying to establish the full circumstances around the incident – there will be a large police presence and several scenes in place while we continue to investigate this horrific incident.
