Liverpool: Fan's brutal video of Alexander-Arnold during Man Utd goal goes viral

Trent Alexander-Arnold had an evening to forget against Manchester United on Monday night.

While the cliché that Liverpool‘s star right-back can’t defend often lacks much in the form of substance, the accusatory fingers could justifiably have been pointed during his latest outing.

That’s because Alexander-Arnold endured a tough night at the office during United’s Premier League triumph at Old Trafford, secured courtesy of goals by Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford either side of the break.

Truth be told, there weren’t many Liverpool players who could hold their head up high with the midfield of Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Harvey Elliott made to look particularly pedestrian.

Nevertheless, it was down United‘s left flank that the hosts had the most joy with Alexander-Arnold widely panned across social media for wobbly defensive moments that hardly inspired confidence.

The statistics show it wasn’t as bad of a performance as some hyperbolic comments would have you believe, but even the man himself would admit that it wasn’t a performance you’d expect from arguably the world’s best right-back.

The data over at SofaScore paints a lukewarm picture of zero clearances, zero interceptions, two fouls, 79% passing accuracy, 57% of ground duels won and possession conceded 23 times.

But one thing that can’t be disputed regardless of what the numbers say is Alexander-Arnold’s less than ideal contribution to United’s opening goal that ultimately set the tone for the evening.

Not only did the 23-year-old fail to keep tabs on Anthony Elanga, who eventually set up the goal, but there were questions raised about his subsequent desire and intensity as Sancho lined up his shot.
