Liverpool end summer business with Calvin Ramsey deal - but will bide time for Jude Bellingham

Liverpool do not intend making any more signings in this transfer window having today agreed the transfer of Aberdeen teenager Calvin Ramsey in a deal which may be worth up to £6.5 million.

Ramsey will become the third deal of the summer pending a medical which is scheduled for this weekend. Providing there are no late hitches, Ramsey will sign a five-year contract.

Negotiations with Aberdeen were concluded on Wednesday evening for the Scotland Under 21 international, who will initially join the first team squad to provide back-up to Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez.

Liverpool will pay a fixed fee of £4 million for 18-year-old Ramsey, with a further £2.5 million depending on whether he meets appearance quotas, and how much he participates in the club’s future success.

Ramsey’s arrival closely follows that of Darwin Nunez, who signed this week in a deal which may be worth £85 million, and Fabio Carvelho, who moved to Anfield from Fulham in a deal which could rise to £8 million.

All the indications from within Liverpool is that the Ramsey deal concludes their summer recruitment. The focus now will be on potential sales.

Sadio Mane and Takumi Minamino are certain to be sold this summer. Neco Williams is also likely to move on after a successful loan spell at Fulham. He is attracting plenty of interest and will want to tie down regular football having secured a place in the Wales team ahead of the World Cup. Nat Phillips is also set to depart, although Liverpool may protect themselves against the possibility of a defensive injury crisis similar to that in the 2020-21 season by only agreeing to another loan move for the centre-back.
