Liverpool "could" sign "special" £66m predator this summer, it'll excite supporters - opinion

Liverpool could indeed sign Benfica’s £31k-per-week starlet Darwin Nunez.

That is according Ian Doyle of Liverpool Echo, who hosted a Q&A on the subject of Liverpool’s transfer business.

When prompted on whether Liverpool could target Nunez, he said: “They could. But that doesn’t mean they will. I would be surprised, though, if Mane or Salah leave and Liverpool don’t bring in someone of a near similar standard but younger.”

Doyle did not rule out the possibility of Klopp snapping Nunez up from Benfica. Previous reports have stated a deal could cost around £66m.

The opening response is enough to excite Liverpool fans across the globe, with the possibility of bringing in an elite forward like Nunez simply tantalising.

This season, the 22-year-old, who has been dubbed “special“, has truly announced himself to the world, with his 26 goals and four assists in 28 appearances serving as a phenomenal return for a player who seems to possess limitless potential.

His goals have been enough to propel him to the very top of the scoring charts in Portugal, and his Champions League performances against the Reds that saw him bag two goals in the two games against them will have surely whet the appetite of Klopp that bit more.

With Manchester City securing the elite capture of Erling Haaland, Liverpool may feel the need to pull the trigger on what could be an equally astute move. The narrow shortfall of Premier League glory will have left a bitter taste in the mouth of the German also, so you would not be surprised if the Reds made a move for him now before his value inevitably increases.
