Liverpool could sign 'next Luka Modric' for £12m and unleash new-look midfield

When you’re looking for players who will fit well in to your team, as we know Liverpool like to, then there’s no harm in purchasing players from the same team (or group of clubs) more than once. The Reds bought several members of their current squad from the Red Bull teams and they may be looking to add another to their ranks.

That’s according to Bild (via HITC) who have reported that Liverpool “could make a move” to acquire 19-year-old midfielder Luka Sucic from Salzburg - reportedly valued currently at £12m - though they supposedly face competition from Serie A giants AC Milan and Juventus.

The young Croatian has been described as the ‘next Luka Modric’ but being called the next anyone can be a heavy burden to bear, particularly when it’s a countryman. Just ask former Liverpool midfielder Bruno Cheyrou, who was memorably compared to Zinedine Zidane by Gerard Houllier, but proved to be nowhere near as good.

Sucic and Modric take up similar positions on the right of midfield, albeit Salzburg manager Matthias Jaissle often sends his side out in a 4-4-2 formation with a diamond midfield, rather than the 4-3-3 which Carlo Ancelotti utilises at Real Madrid. However, the younger of the two players is far more inclined to take a shot at goal, as he averages almost twice as many per game as his illustrious elder.
