Liverpool could set 'dangerous precedent' at Anfield involving £90m star

Liverpool will set a ‘dangerous precedent’ if they shatter their wage structure to keep Mo Salah at Anfield, according to Carlton Palmer.

The Reds are vying for the Premier League title, with them sitting just one point adrift of table-topping Manchester City, but there are major question marks over Salah’s long-term future.

Salah has made a major impact since joining Liverpool in a £34million deal from Roma close to five years ago.

The 29-year-old has racked up more than 210 goal contributions and got his hands on silverware five times.

However, there is uncertainty over Salah’s long-term future as his £200,000-per-week contract is due to expire in little more than 12 months’ time.

The £90million-rated star is already Liverpool’s second-highest earner, with Virgil van Dijk being the only Reds ace currently on a more lucrative deal.

But the Merseyside giants will have to more than double Salah’s current pay package if they want him to agree fresh terms as it was reported earlier in the season that the attacker is seeking a contract worth £450,000-per-week.

Palmer has urged Liverpool to think long and hard over whether they should meet Salah’s demands as it could lead to other key men and potential signings seeking more lucrative agreements.
