Your morning Liverpool headlines on Tuesday, May 24.
Liverpool are considering joining the race to sign Dutch international Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus, according to reports in Italy.
The 22-year-old, who has made 117 appearances for the Italian side since his €75m move from Ajax in 2019, is facing an uncertain future with rumours circulating that he is seeking a move away from the club. Juventus have offered the defender a new contract, with his current deal set to expire in 2024. However, this doesn’t include a pay rise, as the Italian club continue to come to terms with the financial implications of Covid-19.
Barcelona are long-term admirers of De Ligt but their financial issues and the Dutchman’s £105.7m release clause are major sticking points. Calciomercato is reporting that both Liverpool and Chelsea have been linked with the defender and are considering a move. Thomas Tuchel’s side will be looking to replace departing defenders Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.
