Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp makes 'impossible' Man United admission as he delivers Erik ten Hag verdict

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted that, for him, it is "impossible to be positive about something at Manchester United" but concedes he is not surprised by Erik ten Hag's impact at the Reds.

United, who booked their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with a 3-1 win over West Ham United on Wednesday evening, will make the short trip to Merseyside looking to register a first league double over Liverpool since 2016. The Reds recorded their first competitive win of the Ten Hag era against the Anfield outfit back in August, winning 2-1 at Old Trafford.

That result proved to be the turning point in United's season and the beginning of their resurrection under Ten Hag. They have lost just three league fixtures since and currently boast a 10-point lead over Liverpool in the standings.

Although Klopp admits that he respects the progress United have made this season, he does not believe it counts for anything ahead of the latest chapter in their historic rivalry.

"They have had a better season so far but thank God it means absolutely nothing on Sunday," said Klopp, speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday morning. "We have to make sure we show it is still incredibly difficult to play against us. We have to make sure they realise that.

"I couldn't be less interested in what Man United are doing, I just respect it. I see them when we analyse them and we will try to cause more problems than [the reverse meeting]."
