"Liverpool are the frontrunners to sign him": Transfer insider drops claim amid Klopp admission

Transfer insider Dean Jones believes that Liverpool remain in the driving seat to sign Fulham youngster Fabio Carvalho.

The Reds were on the verge of signing the teenager on transfer deadline day, before his proposed move to Anfield collapsed in the final few hours of the window.

Having performed so well for the Championship side this season, it soon became clear that the 19-year-old was a target for Liverpool.

Liverpool had been working on a deal to sign him, in which he would have returned to Fulham for the remainder of the campaign before moving to Merseyside this summer.

However, despite Carvalho undergoing a medical ahead of his proposed switch to the Premier League giants, Jurgen Klopp’s side were unable to get the paperwork completed in time and the attacker ended up staying at Craven Cottage despite a hectic deadline day.

Carvalho showed little disappointment in his next game, though, after the youngster opened the scoring in Fulham’s FA Cup fourth round defeat at Manchester City on Saturday, which was his 12th goal contribution this term.

Regardless, Jones reckons that Liverpool are still in pole position to sign the Fulham man at the end of the season.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Liverpool are the frontrunners to sign him, there hasn’t been any further talks on it since it fell through. I think the player was a bit all over the place on deadline day, it was a bit frantic.

“He was doing a medical, he was trying to get his head around the contract that was being proposed and was trying to figure out if he could get back to Fulham.”

Unless Carvalho has a complete change of heart, this deal should really get done.
