LIVE: Yousef Makki inquest day three - as friend who delivered fatal stab wound to give evidence

The third day of a new inquest into the 2019 death of Yousef Makki is due to begin today, as the friend who delivered the fatal stab wound is set to give evidence.

Joshua Molnar told a jury in his 2019 trial he was acting in self-defence when he stabbed Yousef on Gorse Bank Road on Hale Barns. Molnar said Yousef had pushed him and pulled a knife first - and went on to be acquitted of murder and manslaughter.

But he was handed a 16-month detention and training order after admitting possessing the knife which inflicted the fatal injury and perverting the course of justice by lying to police at the scene of the stabbing.

Another friend Adam Chowdhary, from Hale Barns, was acquitted after the trial of perverting the course of justice. He was given a four-month detention order after admitting possession of a flick knife, one of two he claimed he and Yousef had jointly ordered online during a break from lessons at MGS.

Yesterday Chowdhary gave evidence to the inquest and was forced to deny he had repeatedly lied to police 'to protect yourself'.

The Makki family campaigned for and were granted an inquest which concluded in 2021 that Yousef died of 'complications from a stab wound the precise circumstances of which cannot, on the balance of probabilities, be ascertained'.

Yousef’s family took that conclusion to a judicial review last year and won a new inquest, which began at Stockport Coroners' Court on Monday.
