LIVE with severe disruption on trains to Manchester Piccadilly with lines blocked
There is 'severe disruption' on a train route to Manchester Piccadilly this morning with lines blocked.
Trains have come to a standstill on routes between Piccadilly and Hadfield, New Mills Central, Rose Hill Marple and Sheffield due to a broken down train at Ashburys, in Tameside.
Northern are warning passengers to expect major delays this morning with buses running instead of trains due to the issues.
On X, they posted: "Due to a broken down train at Ashburys some lines are blocked. Train services running through this station will be cancelled or delayed by up to 30 minutes.
"Northern tickets may be used at no additional costs on board TransPennine Express services between Manchester Piccadilly and Sheffield.
"Road Transport will operate as follows: Manchester Piccadilly calling all stops to Hadfield: 07:45 x2 16 seaters. Hadfield calling all stops to Manchester Piccadilly: 08:00 x2 16 seaters."
They added: "Services between Manchester Piccadilly - Hadfield / New Mills Central / Rose Hill Marple are currently being disrupted due to a broken down train in the Ashburys area.
"Engineers are currently working to rectify this issue and there is another train on site to assist."
Travel service Inrix has posted: "Buses run instead of trains on Northern in both directions between Manchester Piccadilly and Hadfield due to broken down train."
Disruption is expected until late Saturday morning, Northern has said.
