Salah keeps Liverpool on top as Arsenal hold Man City

Striker, Mohamed Salah, scored the winner for Liverpool as they came back from a goal down to beat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 and go top of the Premier League ahead of Manchester City and Arsenal, who drew goalless yesterday.

Salah’s sublime second-half strike leaves Liverpool on 67 points, two ahead of second-placed Arsenal and three ahead of City on a pivotal day in the title race.

Danny Welbeck gave Brighton the lead after 84 seconds when his side broke up a Liverpool attack and burst forward to find him just inside the box and he drilled an unstoppable shot past Caoimhin Kelleher to break the deadlock.

Luis Diaz levelled in the 27th minute after Brighton failed to clear a corner, and Liverpool’s huge pressure paid dividends again when Alexis Mac Allister teed up Egypt striker Salah to fire what proved to be the winner in the 65th minute, sending them back to the top of the standings.

Manchester City and Arsenal played out a goalless draw at the Etihad to ensure Liverpool ended the weekend top of the Premier League.

The high-profile clash fell well short of the pre-match hype as Pep Guardiola’s men were held by former City coach Mikel Arteta and his will-drilled Arsenal side in a cagey 0-0 draw.

Whether this proves an important point for either side or a missed opportunity remains to be seen, with Liverpool now at the summit on 67 points ahead of Arsenal on 65 and City on 64.

There is sure to be plenty of twists and turns over the final nine matches, but yesterday’s Etihad Stadium encounter was devoid of any such excitement.
