LIVE weather and travel updates after Storm Isha batters UK with 90mph winds

More travel disruption is expected today (Monday) after Storm Isha battered the UK with 90mph winds and heavy rain.

The fierce storm brought warnings of possible tornadoes and danger-to-life winds as it battered the entire country last night and into the early hours. A number of wind warnings - including a severe amber and red warnings - were issued by the Met Office as gusts topped 90mph in places.

Rail, sea and air travellers were hit with disruption on Sunday, with closures, cancellations and delays across a number of services. Passengers on a Ryanair flight were left 'stuck on the runway' after a Ryanair flight from Manchester to Dublin was forced to divert 500 miles away to Paris.

Network Rail imposed 50mph speed restrictions across most routes to keep passengers and trains safe from falling trees and debris blown onto tracks. In a statement the company said: "It’s likely that travel disruption will continue into Monday morning as engineers finish the clean-up operation removing fallen trees and debris and running ‘ghost trains’ to ensure lines are clear before allowing passenger trains to restart."

Thousands were left without power as Storm Isha also brought disruption to the electricity network. The Met Office said 'everybody' has been affected by the storm.

This morning, a blanket yellow weather warning for wind issued by the Met Office remains in force until 12pm. Forecasters predict that strong winds will continue to cause travel disruption through the day, with some damage to buildings expected and some possible flooding from the heavy rain overnight.
