LIVE: Weather updates as heavy rain hits Greater Manchester ahead of 36-hour Met Office warning - latest updates

Heavy rain has hit Greater Manchester today - with a 36-hour weather warning set to come into place in our region.

Downpours have started to fall this morning (Monday) and are set to continue into the early afternoon. Torrential downpours are then forecast for most of tomorrow and into Wednesday morning.

The Met Office's yellow rain warning for our region will come into place at 6am tomorrow and last until 6pm on Wednesday. Flooding is 'likely' as the heavy showers hit.

Bus and train services are expected to be affected by the heavy rain, with disruption also expected on the roads. The Met Office said: "Outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, will affect many parts of the UK on Tuesday and Wednesday.

"The heaviest and most persistent rainfall during this period is expected to affect the high ground of northwest England, northwest Wales and south Wales. Over the course of this 36 hours in these areas, 50-100 mm of rainfall is likely to accumulate widely, with as much as 150-200 mm in some locations."
