LIVE updates: Police close key Manchester road in both directions after crash

Police have rushed to the scene of a crash on a major road in Manchester.

Hyde Road in Gorton is closed both ways. The incident happened at around 5.40pm.

Drivers have been warned to avoid the area but the closure is creating delays and long queues.

In a tweet, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police's traffic division said: "Due to an ongoing incident, the A57 Hyde Road, Manchester is closed. Please avoid the area if possible."

Drivers around the region have been warned to watch out for flooded roads and heavy rain this evening. Forecasters have issued a weather warning for large parts of Greater Manchester with flood alerts also in place.

Police are currently focused on a car with its hazard lights on parked outside the pub.

There is tape around the building.

The closure covers an area around the Waggon and Horse pub on Hyde Road, close to the junction with Far Lane.
