LIVE updates: Multiple police scenes in place across Greater Manchester after terrorism arrests

A number of police scenes are in place across Greater Manchester this morning after three men were arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences.

Four raids were carried out at homes in Bolton, Great Lever, Abram and Hindley yesterday evening (May 9) by specialist police officers. The three men - aged 35, 36 and 51 - were arrested at separate locations on suspicion of commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism.

They were all taken into custody to be quizzed by detectives. This morning, a number of police scenes are in place across four locations.

One is on Crankwood Road in Abram, with forensic officers and tactical aid unit officers spotted scouring an address on the street late last night. A second scene is on Fairclough Street in Hindley.

Two further scenes are in place in Great Lever and Bolton, though the specific streets have not yet been disclosed. The scenes are expected to remain in place for a number of days. In a statement issued last night,

Assistant Chief Constable Rob Potts, who holds responsibility for counter terrorism policing in the North West, said there was not believed to be 'any wider threat' following the arrests.

He said: "This evening we have executed a number of planned warrants as part of an ongoing counter terrorism investigation. Three men have been taken into custody for questioning and scenes remain in place as we conduct further enquiries.
