LIVE updates: Football fans told to WALK into city centre as Metrolink outages cause chaos across the city

Thousands of football fans could have to walk into the city centre this evening to get home as numerous tram services are suspended.

Tram passengers have seen many of their services completely suspended across the region this evening.

Transport for Greater Manchester previously said this was due to overhead line faults.

It has since been confirmed that a 'major power loss' in the Trafford area has caused the issues.

It comes as thousands are expected to leave the Old Trafford football ground after the Manchester United vs Brighton match.

Many took to twitter to complain after they didn't even make the match in the first place due to service problems.

A total of three Metrolink routes have their services completely suspended, with three others seeing the routes part suspended.

Three other lines have seen routes part suspended or have seen major changes to services.

They confirmed that various services were hit across the network due to the problems, which started occurring shortly after 7.30pm, February 15.

An updated statement from Transport for Greater Manchester confirmed that it is unlikely services will be restored this evening.

This is due to a 'major power loss' and 'extensive damage'.

Alex Cropper, Interim Head of Operations at TfGM, said: “First of all I would like to apologise to anyone whose journeys have been affected this evening.

“Due to a major power loss caused by an overhead line fault between Trafford Bar and Old Trafford a significant number of Metrolink lines are currently suspended or partially suspended.
