Live updates as Welsh rugby players to face bosses over crisis amid Wales v England strike threat

Every Welsh regional rugby player is set to attend a historic meeting today to face bosses in a bid to thrash out Welsh rugby's financial crisis, with the threat of a player strike for Wales v England on Saturday very much an option.

The Professional Rugby Board will meet in Cardiff today to decide what options can be put to players, as well as how a new funding agreement for the game as a whole can finally be rubberstamped to lift the contract freeze that has caused so much anger.

Players and the Welsh Rugby Players' Association will then meet with powerbrokers at a "town hall" meeting at the Vale Resort this afternoon, with reps describing it as "imperative". Players are adamant they won't budge in their refusal to accept 20 per cent of their salaries becoming bonus-related.

WalesOnline understands players are largely in the dark over what is coming, with meetings between national squad members and WRU and PRB chiefs so far proving fruitless in finding a resolution despite Warren Gatland's confidence the dispute would be sorted by the end of Tuesday.

Saturday's Six Nations fixture would earn the WRU as much as £10million so it would be a catastrophe if the game did not go ahead, but the long-term future of Welsh pro rugby is also at stake.
