Live updates as Wales faces serious flood concerns amid heavy rain

There are concerns about flooding on 39 areas of river in Wales amid constant heavy rain and two Met Office weather warnings. Drivers have been sharing clips of standing water on roads as the nation is in the midst of the 30-hour weather warnings.

Forecasters are warning of heavy gusts of wind of up to 60mph in south Wales today with the worst of the winds in the Bristol Channel coastal areas. Heavy rain is also expected to last most of the day.

Natural Resources Wales had four flood warnings, meaning flooding is expected, and 35 flood alerts in place as of 7am on Tuesday. The flood warnings were on the River Ely at Peterston Super Ely, the River Cadoxton at Dinas Powys, the River Hydfron and Llanddowror and the River Ritec at Tenby. The yellow weather warning for heavy rain came into force at 5pm on Monday, January 1 (New Year's Day) and will remain until 9pm on Tuesday, January 2. It covers most of Wales. Meanwhile, the yellow weather warning for wind will come into force at 8am and will remain until 9pm today.

Traffic Wales has warned motorists to take extra care when travelling and always drive to the conditions. The mainline services between Cardiff and London are being delayed and diverted due to flooding this morning.

Great Western Railway has confirmed that, due to heavy rain flooding between Swindon and Bristol Parkway, this line is closed. As a result, train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 40 minutes or revised. Disruption is expected until the end of the day, according to GWR.
