Live updates as Vaughan Gething questioned at UK Covid-19 Inquiry in Wales
Vaughan Gething, who was Wales’ health minister during the pandemic, will face questions at the Covid-19 inquiry today. He is the only witness scheduled to appear when proceedings begin at 10am.
Mr Gething no longer has the health job, but is economy minister and will find out on Saturday, March 16, if his second attempt to become leader of Welsh Labour, and all but certainly the next First Minister has been successful.
Mr Gething will likely face questions about decisions made to discharge people from hospitals to care home without testing and the speed of the Welsh Government’s response from January 2020 once the scale of the pandemic began to emerge.
We also expect he will be asked about why he used the “disappearing” setting for WhatsApp messages for some of the pandemic period.
