Live updates as serious crash closes main motorway close to Prince of Wales bridge

A main road on the English side of the Prince of Wales Bridge has been closed after a serious collision.

Avon and Somerset Police said the M49, which starts near the bridge and leads to Bristol and Bristol Airport, was closed in both directions. It is being reported that it will be closed for most of the morning.

Traffic monitoring system Inrix reports that all traffic has been held in both directions on the M49 due to a 'police incident'. It says: "All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to police incident on M49 in both directions from M4 Prince Of Wales Bridge J22 to M5."
