Live updates as 'serious collision' shuts A48 in Cardiff

A busy Cardiff road is closed this morning and will likely remain so for some time, as police report being at the scene of a "serious collision". The A48 westbound from the Llanederyn roundabout to Gabalfa is currently closed.

A closure is also in place on the eastbound side, in the same area, however traffic is open to one lane. No one will be able to join eastbound from Gabalfa. The incident happened at around 5.30am this morning.

A statement from South Wales Police said: "It is expected to remain closed for some time. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible. Delays are expected in the area."

For many commuters, today is the first day back to work following the Christmas holidays. Those trying to access Cardiff from the M4 at Cardiff Gate may face delays.

Traffic monitoring system Inrix says there is heavy traffic in the area as a result of the closure.
