Live updates as Prime Minister Boris Johnson faces no confidence vote

Boris Johnson is facing a no confidence vote from Tory MPs over both Partygate and his wider leadership.

Chairman of the backbench 1922 Committee Sir Graham Brady has today confirmed that enough Tory MPs have submitted letters to trigger a no confidence vote. The vote is going to be held at 6pm this evening with the Prime Minister likely to be given a chance before voting commences to make his pitch for remaining leader to Tory back benchers.

Now that the no confidence vote has been triggered all Tory MPs will hold a secret ballot is held of Tory MPs. 50% of MPs need to vote “no confidence” for the motion to pass. If a no confidence vote succeeds, the Tory leader must resign and a full leadership contest is held.
