LIVE updates as huge police presence on street and air ambulance lands in Salford

A large police presence has been reported on a street in Salford this afternoon, with the air ambulance also landing close to the scene.

A cordon has been set up by police on Velour Close in Salford.

One witness said as many as six ambulances and 10 police vans and cars were at the scene, and a police helicopter was also called out. Velour Close in Salford is at the bottom of Blackfriars, near to the River Irwell.

The witness said: "They have put crime scene tape up around the furthest block of flats in the right hand corner."

He said several of the ambulances went on to leave the scene.

"The police have remained and the cordon remains in place," he added.

"I can see the police currently doing door to door enquiries around the neighbours."

The air ambulance was also pictured at the scene nearby.

The Manchester Evening News has contacted Greater Manchester Police for comment and details.

Our reporter, Amy Walker, says from the scene:

At around 3pm we heard the ambulance and saw the chopper land nearby. I didn’t know what was going on but didn’t really question it as it happens all the time around here.”

They’ve closed the area off now, but we saw around five police cars and an ambulance.
