Live updates as 'holiday traffic' causes M4 delays near Newport, Cardiff and Swansea

Motorists are being warned of delays on the M4 as the weekend begins. Traffic monitors are showing delays on the motorway around Newport, Cardiff and Swansea.

There are no crashes or incidents of any other kind to report but there are delays of up to 20 minutes in some places. Traffic monitoring system Inrix is showing queueing traffic eastbound from junction 30 Cardiff Gate to junction 26 Malpas Road, between Cardiff and Newport.

It is also very busy eastbound at Swansea from junction 47 Penllergaer to junction 43 Llandarcy, and around junction 41 Baglan. There are also delays of 20 minutes eastbound around junction 27 Highcross at Newport.

The sun is actually shining in south Wales after a series of washout weekends, but sheer volume of traffic on a Friday afternoon is likely to blame for the delays.
