Live updates as A48 in Cardiff closed by crash

An accident has closed a busy Cardiff road. It has happened on the A48 heading into Cardiff. Two vehicles appear to have been involved in the crash and are in the road.

A statement from South Wales Police said: "We are at the scene of a collision on the A48, Eastern Avenue, Cardiff. The road is currently closed westbound from Junction A4232 to North Road. It is expected to remain closed for some time."

A spokesperson added: "Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible. Delays are expected in the area."

Emergency services are at the scene and the dual carriageway eastbound has been closed. A witness said traffic was "backed up quite a way".
