Live traffic updates as M4 east and major A-roads are closed and one person dies after crash

A person has died at the scene of a crash on a road in mid-Wales. The A470 between Rhayader and Llangurig is currently closed in both directions due to a collision.

Traffic monitoring service Inrix said there was stationary traffic from the A44 (Llangurig) to B4518 Church Street (Rhayader). Dyfed-Powys Police has urged motorists to avoid the area and find alternative routes.

The Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed its crews had attended the incident after receiving a call at 8.56am this morning, and that one person had died at the scene. A spokesperson said: "We sent two RRVs (rapid response vehicles), an emergency ambulance and Helimed were in attendance as well."

The spokesperson confirmed just after 10.30am that no patients were conveyed to hospital, all ambulance vehicles had left the scene and "the incident has been closed down."

There is also significant disruption on other major routes elsewhere in Wales. The A477 is currently closed in both directions and there is stationary traffic due to a crash between the A478 (Kilgetty Roundabout, Kilgetty) and Amroth Turn Off (Ludchurch) in Pembrokeshire. The Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed two people were being conveyed to hospital following the crash, which involved a collision with a barrier.

Meanwhile, two major routes are closed in one or both directions for a second day due to weekend roadworks. On Saturday (October 7) there were queues for four miles on the M4 eastbound carriageway in Newport, and the A465 Heads Of The Valleys Road was also shut both directions due to roadworks.

The roads remain closed today as the roadworks continue until the early hours of Monday morning. Traffic monitoring service Inrix said the M4 eastbound was currently closed at Brynglass
