LIVE: Thousands of protesters flood MediaCity over BBC Gaza coverage - updates

Thousands of people have gathered outside the BBC's MediaCity headquarters to protest their coverage of events in Gaza.

Saturday (Ocotber 21) marks two weeks since Hamas launched a deadly attack on Israel killing more than 1,400 people. The demonstration's organisers, Manchester Palestine Solidarity Campaign, have accused the BBC of 'spreading false narrative and lies' and 'dehumanising Palestinians' during their reporting on the ongoing conflict.

The Gaza Strip has been besieged and bombarded by Israel since October 7. Palestinian officials say more than 4,000 people have died in Gaza since then, with charities and aid organisations declaring a 'humanitarian crisis'. On Saturday morning, the first humanitarian aid convoy crossed into the Gaza Strip from Egypt.

Protests are set to be held across the UK, with the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) saying it expects 200,000 people to join what it claims will be the 'biggest march for Palestinian rights in British history' on Saturday.

The BBC has responded at length to criticisms of its coverage, which can be seen in full below. Responding to claims the BBC should use the word 'terrorist' to describe Hamas, the corporation said: "The BBC, along with many other UK and global news organisations, does use the word “terrorist”, but attributes it. We have made clear to our audiences that Hamas is proscribed as a terrorist organisation by the UK and other governments. The use of attribution is required by our Editorial Guidelines."
