LIVE: Teenager injured in suspected shooting as police tape off park - updates

A park in Salford has been taped off by police this afternoon.

A large police presence has been spotted at Ivy Street Park in Eccles. A number of streets near to the park have also been taped off, including Adelaide Street. Pictures from the scene show a police officer guarding a cordon on the street.

Police say the incident is believed to have been a shooting.

A boy, aged 16, suffered an arm injury, believed to have been caused by a firearm.

Police have confirmed a 16-year-old boy suffered an arm injury, believed to have been caused following a shooting.

At around 2:30pm today (Sunday 19 March) Greater Manchester Police were called by NWAS responding to a report of a 16-year-old boy with an arm injury, believed to have been caused by a firearm, at Higher Croft, Eccles.

The victim has been taken to hospital with serious injuries. They are thankfully not believed to be life-threatening.

A scene is remains in place whilst officers carry out their investigation.

Initial enquiries suggest the victim was on his motorbike when two men, also on a motorbike, approached and discharged a firearm.

Detective Inspector Joanne Johnston from GMP Salford district said: "I would like to reassure the local community that we have increased the number of patrol officers deployed to the area and are working at pace to understand the full circumstances surrounding this incident.
