LIVE: Rossendale moorland fire rages as firefighters rush to scene to battle blaze - latest updates

A hill is on fire as moorland blazes spread across the region.

The latest fire can be seen spreading across the top of Musbury Tor near Helmshore in Rossendale. It comes as firefighters also tackle moorland blazes in Denshaw, north of Oldham, and between Crowden and Tintwistle near Glossop on Thursday night (April 10).

Dramatic images sent to the Manchester Evening News also show flames spreading across the moors in Kirklees near Huddersfield.

Eyewitnesses say emergency services have now arrived at Musbury Tor as firefighters respond to yet another fire in the region.

A moorland fire near Glossop has also led to the closure of the A627 Woodhead pass between Manchester and Sheffield.

The fire appears be occupying a small area between Crowden and Tintwistle but a plume of smoke visible for miles around.

In what appeared to be a separate fire, firefighters were also scrambled to a moorland fire in Denshaw north of Oldham this evening.

Firefighters are continuing to monitor the large fire that developed this evening around March Haigh Reservoir, which has drawn in six fire crews from across the region.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service described the wildfire as measuring 1km wide and 2km long, with the fire "developing rapidly."

Alongside the six fire crews, five wildfire support units were deployed to tackle the blaze, with firefighters using "blowers, beaters and two argocat vehicles" alongside their pumps.

In their most recent update, WYFRS said: "Crews remain on scene to monitor the situation as the night progresses.

"We thank the public for their cooperation in avoiding the area, and to our partner agencies for helping us with the incident."
