LIVE Rider seriously injured and road shut in both directions after horror e-bike crash - latest updates

A busy road in Leigh is closed off this morning after a crash between an e-bike and a car.

Wigan Road is currently shut off in both directions. It is closed from Edna Road to Shelley Street.

According to eyewitnesses, a crime scene is in place this morning. Officers have reportedly been on the scene since the early hours.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed officers were called to reports of a crash between a car and an e-bike. The rider of the bike - a man aged in his 20s - was rushed to hospital from the scene.

No arrests have been made at this stage. In a statement, the GMP spokesperson said: "At around 5.10am this morning (Tuesday 17 September 2024), we were called to reports of a road traffic collision between a car and an e-bike on Wigan Road in Leigh.

"Officers attended and located the rider of the bike – a man in his 20s - with serious injuries, he has been taken to hospital for treatment. No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."
