LIVE: Police cordon in place after serious 'stabbing' - updates

A large police cordon is in place tonight following what appears to be a serious incident.

A number of Greater Manchester Police vehicles and officers are stationed in Kings Road, Old Trafford, on Wednesday night (May 31). A cordon is in place around a number of houses on the road, which remains open.

Witnesses have told the Manchester Evening News a person has been stabbed, however this has not been officially confirmed by the authorities as of yet. Forensic officers are currently at the scene, adjacent to Rostherne Avenue.

Our reporter at the scene says: "Kings Road itself is open but there’s an area that’s taped off where some houses are. There seems to be at least one house within a cordon and there's at least seven police cars and vans here."

The cordon is in the middle of an area which is currently under extra police powers.

Earlier this evening, GMP issued a statement saying they had increased powers in the Old Trafford and south Manchester areas following a night where 'multiple incidents of violent disorder' was reported.

Fifteen arrests were made after police found 'a number of youths with weapons', and police have enforced stop and search powers until Thursday night.

Kings Road is in the middle of the designated area covered by the section 60 order issued by police. It is not known whether last night's events are connected to tonight's incident.

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for more information.
