LIVE: Metrolink disruption after tram and coach crash in Manchester - updates

The Metrolink in Manchester city centre is disrupted this morning after a crash.

Pictures show the crash between a tram and a coach on Portland Street, close to Piccadilly Gardens. A number of service changes are now in place due to the incident.

According to the Bee Network, the lines impacted are the Ashton-under-Lyne to Eccles line, the Altrincham to Bury line, the Altrincham to Piccadilly line and the Bury to Piccadilly line. Ashton services will operate to Piccadilly and Eccles services will operate to Exchange Square.

Etihad services will operate to Crumpsall and Altrincham services will operate to Queens Road. Bury services will operate to Cornbrook.

A spokesperson for the Bee Network 'apologised for any inconvenience caused'.

Following the earlier road traffic collision in the City Centre Ashton - Eccles and Bury - Altrincham lines are currently experiencing a minor delay.

There may still be some minor delays on the network.

The bus operator posted this update on X.

Danny Vaughan, TfGM’s Head of Metrolink, said:

“At around 9.23am this morning (Tuesday 5 March) we received reports of a collision between a tram and a coach on Portland Street in Manchester city centre.

“No injuries were reported, however the tram has sustained extensive damage and work to remove the tram is ongoing with support from Greater Manchester Police.
