LIVE: Major train disruption in Manchester with warnings of cancellations due to incident - updates

There is major train disruption in Manchester this afternoon with warnings of possible cancellations due to an ongoing incident.

Emergency services are currently dealing with an incident near the railway between Newton Le Willows and Manchester Victoria, meaning some lines are blocked.

TransPennine Express said that train services running through these stations may be cancelled or delayed this evening, with disruption expected for a number of hours.

British Transport Police has been approached for a statement.

National Rail has said disruption is now expected for at least two more hours this evening while emergency crews deal with the incident.

Disruption to the network is expected until 6.30pm currently - with Manchester Victioria services affected.

Disruption is expected until 5.45pm this evening, with emergency services remaining at scene.

A person was found with injuries on the tracks at around 3.15pm today. They have since been rushed to hospital.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said:

Officers were called to a report of a casualty on the tracks 3.15pm today (4 November) at Newton-Le-Willows railway station.

Officers and paramedics attended and a person was taken to hospital for medical treatment with injuries that are not thought to be life threatening. The incident is not thought to be suspicious.

Passengers requiring stations to and from Liverpool or Manchester can use alternative Northern services via Warrington which are not impacted by this disruption, National Rail said.

Passengers requiring stations to and from Chester can use alternative Northern services from Manchester Piccadilly to Chester.
