LIVE: Major incident declared as A55 closed and holidaymakers stranded as vehicle bursts into flames in Conwy tunnel - latest updates

A major route in north wales has been closed this afternoon leaving travellers and holidaymakers stranded.

The A55 is closed in both directions due to a vehicle fire in the Conwy Tunnel. Smoke can be seen billowing from the tunnel, with fire crews on the scene.

Major delays are building this afternoon with traffic currently being diverted due to the blaze.

A Traffic Wales statement said: "Warning. Vehicle fire A55 Conwy Tunnel - Closed in both directions. Emergency services are on scene. Please avoid the area", North Wales Live reported.
