Major road closed by police after man hit by car

A main road in Trafford is closed off this morning after a man was hit by car.

Chester Road - the A56 - is currently closed off in both directions in Stretford. It is shut from Edge Lane to Barton Road, according to traffic alert service Inrix.

Police are on the scene after a man was knocked down by a car at around 8.45am this morning. He has been taken to hospital, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said.

No arrests have been made. A cordon remains in place on the main road.

The police cordon is in place near Stretford Mall this afternoon.

It is at the junction of Chester Road with Edge Lane.

A spokesperson for GMP said a man had been hit by a car on Chester Road.

Officers were called to the scene at around 8.45am this morning.

The man was taken to hospital, though his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening at this stage.

No arrests have been made and a cordon remains in place on the road.
