LIVE: M62 blocked after multi-vehicle crash with queues building - latest updates

A stretch of the M62 is blocked this morning after a multi-vehicle crash.

The westbound carriageway is shut near Warrington, between junction 11 for Birchwood and junction 10 for the Croft Interchange. Emergency services are at the scene.

Queues are building up the incident with all traffic currently stationary. Highways England said: "The #M62 is currently blocked westbound between J11 -J10 near #Warrington due to a multi-vehicle collision. @NWmwaypolice and #TrafficOfficers are in attendance.

"30 min delays on approach so please allow extra time for your travel and seek an alternative route if possible."

A tweet posted by North West Motorway Police said: "We currently have the westbound M62 closed between Jnc 11 Birchwood to J 10 Croft due to an RTC and a shed load - we have Police and @HighwaysNWEST making to assist."

There is also congestion on the opposite side as drivers slow to look at the accident.

According to traffic alert service Inrix, traffic is still stationary between junction 11 for Birchwood and junction 10 for the Croft Interchange.
