Live M61 traffic updates as car overturns following Easter Sunday crash and all lanes stopped
Traffic is held on the M61 motorway after a crash saw a car overturn today (Easter Sunday, April 20).
The incident has taken place on the southbound carriageway between Junction 3 and Junction 2 near Bolton.
The crash was first reported at around 8pm and emergency services are at the scene.
One lane is expected to reopen to traffic to allow vehicles past the scene soon.
A National Highways spokesperson said: "M61 southbound J3 to J2 near Bolton. TRAFFIC STOPPED Due to a collision and overturned car."
"Police, firefighters, the ambulance service and our officers are on scene. Traffic will be released soon to run in 1 lane."

The motorway has now fully reopened, National Highways have confirmed. All delays have also cleared.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said:
“Just before 8pm this evening three fire engines from Bolton Central and Eccles, along with the Technical Response Unit from Leigh, were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving two cars on the M61 near junction 3.
“Crews arrived quickly at the scene and helped to make the area safe.
“Firefighters were in attendance for around thirty minutes.”
Two lanes remain closed on the M61 following the earlier crash. Traffic is said to be slow passing the incident.
